‘To Leslie’: Oscar-nominated film lands on Netflix US, premiering June 2023

Among the list of new movies opening on Netflix in the United States in June 2023 is To Leslie, the Oscar-nominated film starring Andrea Riseborough. This will mark the SVOD debut of the film, which is scheduled to begin streaming from June 1, 2023.

Based on a true story, the film follows a West Texas single mother who wins the lottery and almost immediately blows it. Set years later, after losing everything, she sets out to rebuild her life and find redemption.

Along with Riseboroguh, the film stars Andre Royo, Owen Teague, Stephen Root, James Landry Hebert, Marc Maron, and Allison Janney.

Momentum Pictures, a subsidiary of One Entertainment, is distributing the film, and as noted, currently only Netflix in the United States is scheduled to stream. to leslie in June. This is the first time the film has been available on a subscription service after its release. initial debut at SXSW and limited theatrical release late last year.

As mentioned, the film was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar, with Riseborough up against Michelle Yeoh, Cate Blanchett, Michelle Williams, and Ana de Armas, with Yeoh ultimately winning the award.

Of course, his Oscar nomination came with some controversy about the tactics used to get a go-ahead, ultimately leading to the implementation of some new rule changes on social media campaigns. However, most critics and audiences agree that it is a great movie, with the coveted Certified Fresh rating on RottenTomatoes at the time of publication.

Richard Brody for the New Yorker he concluded in his review, “Riseborough makes a virtuoso display of the screenplay’s gamut of screen clichés, from loud aggression and flattering sweetness to humiliated despair and proud defiance…”

This won’t be the only film nominated for an Oscar on Netflix in the United States in June 2023. As we first reported, Netflix will also be streaming the Sony Pictures Classic film.
