Vaccination in Argentina: bivariate doses arrive against Covid-19

Last Thursday, the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti announced through a Press conference the delivery of two million vaccines From the Pfizer and Moderna laboratories. Vaccines will be bivariate to be able to continue advancing with the National Vaccination Plan against Covid-19.

Between Thursday and Friday, 1,100,160 doses would arrive in the country. The vaccines will be delivered according to the organization that each jurisdiction of the national territory has. The Minister assured that the distribution of 900,000 doses will begin in the coming weeks.

How and when to get vaccinated

The bivariate vaccine contemplates protection against two viruses. They are the Original Bivariate Comirnaty/Omicron BA.4-5 (Pfizer) and the Original Bivariate Spikevax/Omicron BA.4-5 (Moderna) vaccine. The first contemplates its use from 12 years onwards, while the second is from 6 years onwards.

Vizzotti maintained that whoever received a dose four months ago should be given the reinforcement. Scientific data have shown that the application of vaccines ensures efficacy against the viral load, above all, to avoid complications, hospitalizations and/or death from the disease. Caution is focused on people older than 50 years often risky situation.

Regarding adverse effects, in the case of monovalent vaccines, only pain in the area of ​​the vaccine, fever and fatigue have been detected. On the other hand, bivariate vaccines will be used to start or specify vaccination schemes.

Health specialists recommend realizing the dose against Covid-19, even if it is monovalent. The national health portfolio grants that both types of doses will coexist. So far, 129,536,262 doses have been delivered since the start of the National Vaccination Campaign against Covid-19. Of these vaccines, 124,453,262 will be applied in the national territory and 5,083,000 will be sent to other countries.
