The Mexican who killed Benjamín Gamond from Córdoba and injured his friends on a beach in Mexico, he was identified as Cruz Irving Martinez Flores, 21 years old. The attacker was arrested at the time of the attack and his judicial situation is expected to be defined this Wednesday.
Until Monday, Martínez Flores was investigated by the Oaxaca State Attorney General for injuries and attempted homicide. After learning of Gamond’s death, the reclassification of the crime of homicide will be requested.
the aggressor attacked Gamond last Friday with machetes and his friend Santiago Lastra and his girlfriend, Macarena González. Gamond was in Tulum working and his friends had gone to visit him, it was then that he decided to travel to the Lagunas de Chacahua National Park, in Oaxaca.
It was there that Martínez attacked Benjamín from behind and wounded him twice in the head with the machete. After this he was hospitalized in very serious conditions, until Monday he died in the hospital. His friends who tried to defend him also suffered stab wounds to their hands and arms and fractures.

Macarena’s mother told Digital Necochea that the Argentines had met the attacker on the boat that took them to the island and that he told them that he was a surf instructor. The next day the Argentines saw him in a restaurant and asked him where they could rent surfboards from the south, but the reaction was the worst.
“He looked at him half taken, as if he didn’t know him”, recounted the woman. Then, as the group was leaving the restaurant, “the attacker ran out of nowhere, like crazy, and attacked Benjamin with the machete in the face and head,” she added.
“‘They sent you, they sent you,'” the attacker shouted, according to Macarena’s mother.
Regarding what happened, the municipal president of Villa de Tututepec, Jesuhandy Conde Gómez, maintained in dialogue with the twelve that the aggressor “apart from suffering psychological problems, he ingested toxic substances”. “Out of nowhere he got very aggressive. First he approached, they talked for about 10 minutes and then they came back shoving and so on, “added the official about Martínez’s reaction.
In a statement, local authorities replayed the attack. “The communities of Chacahua Isla and Chacahua Grúa, the Municipal Government of Villa de Tututepec, as a representative of all the communities that make up the municipality, condemn this type of violent acts, exposing all citizens, visitors and authorities that the acts they carry out people outside our municipality do not define the hospitality, security and peace that these tourist destinations have offered to millions of tourists for many years,” he said.
